Virginia Creeper Trail Club Meeting April 27th

The Virginia Creeper Trail Club's April meeting will be held Wednesday, April 27th at 7pm in the Washington County Library in Abingdon. Following our discussion of upcoming trail events, trail conditions, and future plans, Joe Tennis of the Bristol Herald Courier and author of "Virginia's Rail Trails" will be discussing his most recent book, "Along Virginia's Route 58: True Tales from Beach to Bluegrass" which includes some fascinating profiles of local interest.

Lawrence Dye - The Legend Continues !

Lawrence Dye, the Legend of the Virginia Creeper Trail, pedaled his 189,000th mile on the Creeper Trail today!!!

 

If you're keeping score, 189,000 miles is equivalent to circumnavigating the Earth over 7.5 times and the same distance as 80% of the journey from Earth to the moon -- incredible!

 

Lawrence turned 84 years old in December and ended 2015 with 188,500 miles to his credit. As the weather warmed, he added another 500 miles just in March and April, averaging 40 miles on the days he rides. 

 

Please join us in congratulating Lawrence on this phenomenal achievement!!!

The Rugby Jam is a new music series created by the owner, Dennis Conroy, with musicians, Wayne C. Henderson and Emily Spencer. The Jam will take place Creekside on the newly landscaped patio and yard behind the general store. The opening Jam will be on May 15th and will feature the renowned guitar maker, picker, and co-founder, Wayne C. Henderson.
